Do you go to schools?

We are able to see your child in a private school or preschool if the difficulties your child is having affects their performance in this setting.   We are not able to see your child in a public school as they have their own therapists that would provide services to your child in public school.

What ages do you work with?

We work with individuals from birth through young adulthood.

Do you accept insurance?

We are considered to be an “out-of-network” provider. Your insurance company may reimburse for Occupational Therapy services; however, this occurs on a case by case basis and it is best to call your insurance company to check on your specific out-of-network benefits. Upon your request we can provide what is called a superbill (indicating that you have paid for services) for you to submit to your insurance company in attempt to get reimbursed.

You may also want to investigate whether HSA (Health Savings Account) dollars or FSA (Flex Spending Account) dollars can be used for payment.  In keeping with “best practice” we believe that the frequency, amount, and type of services are best determined by you and your child’s therapist, and based on your child’s specific needs. Our costs for services are transparent and will always be available on our website.

How do I pay for services?

Families pay Forward Therapy Solutions directly for each service at time of the appointment. Cash and checks for the exact amount as well as credit and debit cards are accepted for home visits. Credit and debit cards are accepted when paying online via your secure client portal.  A superbill may be requested to provide to an out-of-network insurance company in attempt to get reimbursed.

Cards accepted:

  • Visa (credit and debit cards)
  • MasterCard (credit and debit cards)
  • American Express
  • Discover

What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapists work with people of all ages to help them participate in daily life activities or “occupations.” Pediatric Occupational Therapy is a holistic profession that engages your child in meaningful activities that help develop the child’s ability to function in everyday tasks that are typical for their age and in their typical environments.

A pediatric occupational therapist works with the child as a whole individual, evaluating and treating his/her social-emotional, physical, cognitive, visual-motor, sensory and self-help challenges that make it difficult for them to participate fully in their everyday-life activities.

Some skill areas that pediatric occupational therapists work with include play, fine motor, handwriting, self-help, sensory processing, and visual-motor skills.

How could my child benefit from Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

Parents can seek out Occupational Therapy services at any time they have concerns with their child’s development, or if their child is having difficulty with functioning in any of their daily activities.  Although many of the children we see in Occupational Therapy have a medical diagnosis, there are many children who do not have a specific diagnosis, yet are experiencing difficulties that impact their ability to participate and function age appropriately in their typical environments and daily activities.

No concern is too small and we are here to help!  We believe parents know their child best and reaching out to get your questions answered is a great place to start. Contact us to discuss any concerns or challenges your child is experiencing to see if Occupational Therapy is the appropriate service to address your child’s needs.

What is an Occupational Therapy Evaluation like?

An occupational therapy evaluation is typically 1-1.5 hours. The paperwork you will be sent ahead of time to complete before the evaluation will help us get to know your child and help decide the best assessment tools to use, based on your concerns and your child’s age. The evaluation consists of parent interview, child observations and interactions, standardized assessments (if appropriate), and/or other non-standardized assessments and screening tools.

Evaluation addresses the whole child and will help identify your child’s strengths and challenges that affect their ability to function independently and age appropriately in their daily activities and in their natural environments. Parents know their children best. We value your input and also discuss your child’s and family’s goals that are important to you. Following the evaluation, you will receive the written evaluation report and we will review this along with recommendations in a follow up phone call.

What are Occupational Therapy Treatment sessions like?

This will vary greatly depending on the child’s age, but it is important for the child to be engaged, challenged and having a positive experience. We engage the children in play and purposeful activities that are motivating for them, and that are working toward overcoming challenges to gain more independent functioning in age appropriate skills.

How do I get started with Occupational Therapy Services?

Steps to Getting Started:

  1. Contact us
Contact us and we will answer your questions and discuss your concerns to determine if your child may benefit from Occupational Therapy services.
  2. Complete initial forms
After scheduling an Occupational Therapy evaluation you will receive directions to sign up for our secure Client Portal where you be sent all of the necessary initial paperwork to complete.
  3. Evaluation
Evaluation is completed with parent/caregiver present.
A follow up phone call is completed to discuss evaluation results and recommendations.
  4. Treatment
If treatment is recommended, frequency and duration will be discussed based on assessment findings, goals, child and family priorities.  The parent-child relationship is key in supporting your child in their development. Treatment is a commitment by parents as well as other individuals that are important in your child’s life.  Occupational Therapy treatment will focus on a combination of interactions with your child and  parent/caregiver training with recommendations.
Together we will focus on carry over of these recommendations into your child’s daily activities in order to achieve best outcomes and consistency over time.
  5. What to expect on the therapy journey:
We take a collaborative approach throughout the therapy journey for you and your child.  You are the expert that knows your child’s strength and the gifts they offer to others daily!  You also know challenges, needs, and issues affecting daily experiences that you would like to make easier.  We value your input in sharing these experiences and you can never ask too many questions.
As we help you with strategies and activities throughout the therapy journey, please keep asking and sharing how things are improving, changing, and/or what things may not be working.  Parents are an active part of the child’s Occupational Therapy experience, and needs, strategies and your priorities may change several times over the course of treatment.  That’s ok and we work collaboratively to keep moving forward!
  6. Ending the Occupational Therapy Journey:
How long a child may be receiving Pediatric Occupational Therapy services is unique to each child, their needs, child/family priorities, and therapeutic recommendations. For some children, home programming with recommendations may be the only intervention recommended following an evaluation.
For other children 1-2 times a week may be recommended, or 1 time a month may be sufficient to meet needs. We re-evaluate and collaboratively review progress and success of strategies with each session to guide us in determining length of the treatment journey.  A child is going to have changing needs with changing development. Therefore many families often seek out therapy services again after a period of time, because their child is now having difficulties with their daily activities at a different developmental stage.
Pediatric Occupational Therapists can support your child from infancy through young adulthood!  There may be a point in time where you feel your child is no longer benefiting from Occupational Therapy services and you have the right to end services at any time.  Therapy services can also end when the child, parents and caregivers are able to carry over strategies and recommendations independently, or when goals have been met.

What are Guide and Grow Sessions?

Our Guide and Grow sessions are for all parents and children (Birth–5) who may have concerns about their child’s development, or may just want to learn more and have guidance through each stage of development, and learn strategies to be more effective in their day to day interactions with their child.  Sessions can be held in your home within the Fargo-Moorhead area, or conveniently available anywhere in ND or MN via online video call.

Our Occupational Therapist helps you understand where your child is at developmentally, addresses any of your concerns, and collaboratively guides you to the next steps in your child’s development through individualized recommendations that fit well in your family’s life.

How do I schedule a Guide and Grow Session?

  1. Contact us directly to schedule your appointment. You are able to select 30, 45, or 60 minute sessions.
  2. After scheduling a Guide and Grow Session you will be sent all necessary initial paperwork to be completed at least 3 working days prior to your appointment. This allows the Pediatric Occupational Therapist time to review your information, and begin to know your child and family in order to be prepared and help you get the most out of your session together.
  3. If you schedule an online VIDEO CALL Guide and Grow session, you will be emailed a secure link to sign in for your video call session.
  4. If you schedule an IN HOME Guide and Grow session, the Pediatric Occupational Therapist will meet you at your home on the date/time you scheduled.
  5. Guide and Grow sessions are scheduled one at a time as you need them and as we mutually decide on a plan that meets the needs for your child and family and gets your questions answered.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is not a specific service in and of itself, but is a means by which healthcare and health-related services are delivered via digital and telecommunications technologies – computers, tablets and mobile devices.

Use of your client portal, secure messaging and receiving services through our online video-call appointments are all examples of Telehealth. Our Guide and Grow Sessions are ideal for online video-call sessions, especially if you are outside of our travel area (20 mile radius of Fargo-Moorhead). We will decide on a case by case basis if Occupational Therapy evaluation and treatment sessions are appropriate to meet your child and family’s needs via Telehealth. We are able to address all areas we would typically address in Pediatric Occupational Therapy with an in-person session, however interventions that require physical handling, special equipment, or interpretation of subtle body or contextual cues may not be appropriate via Telehealth.

Some of the benefits of using Telehealth services are:

  • Increased access to services – especially in rural areas or for those where transportation is an issue.
Convenience – no lost time traveling or in a waiting room. Have your appointment from the privacy and comfort of your own home or other desired setting.
  • Consistency with attending appointments – less cancelations because of traffic, weather, childcare issues, or having to take additional time off from work.
  • Choice – some sessions may be done in person and then other sessions done via Telehealth.
  • Parents report feeling more actively engaged in their child’s therapy sessions, and feeling more confident in carrying over the therapy strategies and recommendations since they are present and actively doing the hands-on learning in a Telehealth session, while guided by the therapist.

Therapists providing Telehealth services are bound by the same code of ethics, scope of practice, state and federal laws that they are held to when providing in-person services for their profession.
